Decal Sheet Title T-33A "USAFE"
Types Featured  T-33A

Rocketeer Decals are relatively new and have produced some interesting decals. This sheet is designed for the new Platz T-33A and covers some colourful examples for USAFE bases during the early 1950's. The airframes featured on this sheet are as follows:-

  • T-33A 49-1003 "91003" "TR-003" from the 36th FBS, Furstenfeldbruck AB, Germany during 1952.This airframe carried blue and white stripes on rthe nose and an Insignia Red tail fin and wingtip fuel tanks with red stripes on the upper and lower wing surfaces. Rocketeer provide the blue stripes, requiring the nose to be painted white first, and the red wing stripes are also provided, leaving the modeller to paint the fin and tanks themselves;
  • T-33A 61-4382 "14382" TR-382 from the 77th FBS, 20th FBG at RAF Wethersfield, England during 1954. The aircraft carried red lightning bolts on the fuselage and wingtip tanks and the "buzz numbers" on the nose are black outlined in yellow;
  • T-33A 51-4415 "014415" "TR-415" from the 10th TRW, RAF Alconbury, England. This aircraft was quite plain, carrying only a red/yellow/blue/green flash on the fin and Insignia Orange wing tanks with the inside section painted black;
  • T-33A 49-999 "999" "TR-999" from the 19th TRS, 47th BW at RAF Sculthorpe, England. This carried blue fin and wingtip tank flashes containing three stars with the inner sections of the tanks again being painted black;
  • T-33A 51-17411 "0-17411" "TR-411" from the 66th TRW Laon AB, France. This carried a red/green/yellow/blue flash on the fin and also had International Orange/Black wingtip tanks

This sheet seems a little of a "mixed bag". The "colorful" markings are well printed and in register, although the black outlines on the 20th FBG lightning flashes appear a little heavy. The T-33A carried "buzz numbers" in various styles and these are well represented. The "stars'n'bars" are also well printed and in the correct shade of blue.

Where the sheet falls a little short is in some of the details - the "U.S.Air Force" tail markings are heavily printed and would need to be replaced, and some of the details such as the information blocks for the noses of each aircraft are missing.

The instructions are full colour and have three views for each aircraft, with additional "scrap" views where required. However, no individual aircraft details are provided and research was required to confirm the serial numbers for each aircraft.

In summary, this is a useful sheet, but some of the decals will need to be replaced or supplanted by decals from the spares box.
