Eagle Strike do not tend to
produce many USAF-related sheets in 1/72nd
scale, but this one is rather nice. It was released
in 2000 and covers 4 aircraft from the Vietnam
period, being as follows:-
·
F-4D 68-782 “FA” of the 25th
TFS, 8th TFW at Udorn, RTAB, 1969 in
standard SEA scheme, with yellow trim on the intake
scoops and nose gear door;
·
F-4C 63-7604 “XN” of the 559th
TFS, 12th TFW at Cam Rahn Bay during
1969. This aircraft carried blue/red/yellow trim on
the fin and leading edges of the pylons and tanks,
and also had blue/red/yellow flashes on the intakes,
with “Sugar Foot III” on the nose. This aircraft
was also featured on a Microscale sheet, but the ESP
version appears more accurate. I will be using this
sheet on one of my F-4C’s so check the OOB
regularly!;
·
F-4D 68-723 “OC” of the 13th
TFS, 432nd TFW at Udorn RTAB, 1969.
Standard SEA scheme with blue wing tank tips;
·
F-4D 68-775 “CO” of the 480th
TFS, 366th TFW at Da Nang in 1968. This
aircraft had a green/white/green flash on the
rudder, a green/red/blue chevron on the fuselage,
green trim around the canopy and large badges on the
intakes, with “The Saint” in white on a green
background on the nose.
Left hand side views are
provided in black and white for each aircraft, with
additional details for specific color markings.
Please note that Eagle Strike
do not provide much in the way of stencilling (with
a limited set of stencils for two aircraft only, so
you will need to get these from an alternative
source.
I really like this sheet – as
mentioned, I will be using at least one of the sets
of markings soon, and I quite fancy a couple of the
others too!
