This is a model of
a Night Owl F-4D of the 497th TFS, 8th
TFW in Vietnam 1971. The aircrafts undersides were repainted
black to help the night role. This aircraft was shot down on
5th October 1972 by a MiG-21 flown by Nguyen Tien
Sam of the 921st Squadron VNAF, using an AA-2
Atoll missile. The crew survived and were taken prisoner.
The model is the
Hasegawa F-4C/D ‘MiG Eater’ boxing, built out of the box
except for a pair of Quickboost ejector seats, which I
always use to dress up the model. The decals are from the
Wolfpak sheet 72-001, which includes decals for a KC-135R,
MC-130E, T-28D and an A-10A.
The sheet looks
good, except I think the blue in the national markings is
too light, but I used them so people can form their own
opinions.
I have always
wanted to build a black bellied Phantom, as it is
sufficiently different on a display to be of interest.
I have
commented previously on the Hasegawa kit, so I need say no
more about it. |
